serves as a vibrant community hub in Dawlish, committed to inclusivity and creating a welcoming environment where people of all backgrounds feel at home. Volunteers are essential to the Centre’s operations, gaining valuable experience and personal growth while supporting a wide range of activities.
At the heart of the Centre is the Inspire Café, celebrated for its high-quality, locally sourced meals prepared on-site. It has become a favorite gathering spot, fostering community connections and friendships. The Centre also features a Men’s Shed, a supportive space where members can craft, repair, and share skills, as well as various support groups, including those focused on dementia and substance recovery, alongside a popular weekly toddler group. Additionally, the Centre provides essential support for individuals facing homelessness, offering meals, clothing, and guidance from a former Social Services professional.
As Dawlish’s largest flexible space for community activities, the Strand Centre is an ideal venue for art exhibitions, gardening displays, concerts, and local craft markets. The Centre also offers welcoming spaces for private celebrations, including weddings, wakes, and family gatherings, establishing itself as a cornerstone of community engagement in Dawlish.
Keeping The Strand Centre running costs around £1000 each week. This essential funding comes mainly from letting out our function rooms, profits from the Inspire Café, occasional grants, and the kind donations from local organisations and people like you.
